Along with developing social skills, they also learn some extremely important skills that are used in learning to read. If they do not already know it, they learn their ABCs and begin to learn what sounds each letter within the alphabet makes. This is extremely important when they begin to read.
They also learn their numbers. Again, they may already know how to count to a certain point, but in preschool, they will continue to develop their counting and also learn what the numbers look like. It is a great thing to be able to count, but they need to also learn how to recognize the numbers and also learn to write them.
In preschool they will learn different shapes also. What they look like and they will begin to make shapes also. They will start with the basics; square, triangle, circle; but will continue to move on from those.
In addition to the skills that they begin to learn, your child will also need to separate from mom. If your child has been going to daycare, they have had to separate then also, but they are familiar with that. In needing to separate in order to go to school, it is a different experience for them and it can be hard to do.
Preschool is a stepping stone in a child’s life that they really should have in order to get the most out of kindergarten. Not to say that a child that does not go to preschool will do poorly in kindergarten, but they will be behind the children that do go to preschool.
